Prayer and Fasting
“The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.“ James 5:16b
Prayer is an integral part of the Christian faith. It characterizes the very nature of our personal relationship with our Heavenly Father. Jesus lived a life of prayer and often slipped away to secluded places to be alone when he prayed. In Ephesians 6:18 we are told to “pray at all times in the Spirit with all prayer and supplication.”
Because we know that “with God, all things are possible”, (Matthew 19:26b), your prayers are the first and foremost way you can not only support Prolife Montana, but also those who may be facing difficult life choices. When asked by His disciples how to pray, Jesus responded with what we now refer to as The Lord’s Prayer or the Our Father.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven, hallowed by your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts and we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Matthew 6:9-13

If you are a woman discovering you are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy, we invite you into a mother’s prayer.
Dear Father in heaven, I know you created me, and you are the author of all life. I know you even knew me before you formed me in my mother’s womb (Jer 1: 5). You already know my child as it grows in my womb. I pray that you will give me the courage to rise up and be the mother you intended me to be. Help me to be courageous and to rest in you. With this pregnancy, I am a mother. Father in heaven, please help me now be a mother that reflects you. I pray, God, for the knowledge and confidence that I can do this. Whether I choose to parent or gift this baby to another family, I can do better than abortion. Would you please help me stand for life so that I can avoid the loss, pain, and shame that most often accompanies an abortion?
Let me rise up and stand for life. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
If you are a man discovering that you are now part of an unplanned pregnancy, let us invite you into a father’s prayer.
Dear Father in heaven, I know you created me, and you are the author of all life. I know you even knew me before you formed me in my mother’s womb (Jer 1: 5). You already know my child as it grows in the womb. I pray that you will give me the courage to rise up and be the father you intended me to be. Help me have the courage of Daniel or David; help me rest in you. With this pregnancy, I am a father. Father in heaven, please help me now be a father that reflects you. I pray, God, that I give her the confidence that we can do this. Whether we choose to parent or gift this baby to another family, we can do better than abortion. Would you please help me stand for life so that both she and I can avoid the loss, pain, and shame that most often accompanies an abortion?
Let me rise up and stand for life. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
God, you see my baby in my womb. You know my baby’s every detail, every muscle, every bone, every bit of their beautiful body, mind, heart, and soul. No matter how they are formed, they are beautiful and beloved by you. Grant me peace throughout this
pregnancy, that I would surrender every worry or fear to you. May I take heart, knowing you have overcome the world and made a way for us to be near to you in heaven someday and on earth here now. No matter what comes, be near, Jesus. Bring comfort and peace, bring blessed assurance. In your name, Amen.
1.Heavenly Father, we lift up all those women and mothers whose hearts are aching because of their decision to have an abortion and who are now riddled with guilt, because of their choices.
We also lift up those whose freely chose to abort their babies, based on their own selfish attitude, thinking that a baby in their life would spoil the prearranged plans they had made or inhibit their desired destiny.
We pray Your mercy and forgiveness over each one and ask that in a very special way You would come alongside each woman who has made a decision to terminate their pregnancy. Meet each one at their very point of need.
Comfort those that are grieving, support those that are weak and convict those that have rejected the sacredness of a human life. Bring each one we pray, to a saving faith in the Lord Jesus, and an assurance of Your gracious forgiveness. This we ask in Jesus’
name, Amen.
2.Eternal Father,
Source of all mercy and love,
out of love for us you sent your Son,
and willed that blood and water
flow from his side to cleanse us of sin
and restore lost innocence.
Hear the cry of each woman who mourns
the loss of her child to abortion.
Forgive her sin, restore her to your grace,
and still the terror of her heart
with a peace beyond all understanding.
Through the intercession
of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
Mother of all tenderness and our Mother,
strengthen her faith in you.
Give her the consolation to believe
that her child is now living in the Lord.
We ask this through Christ our Lord,
who conquered sin and death,
and who lives and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Father in heaven, we lift up the men among us who have participated in abortion decisions. We ask that they find forgiveness and freedom by receiving Your steadfast mercy and love, and that they in turn become agents of healing to other men.
We also pray for the fathers who desperately wanted to save their children from abortion but were helpless to do so. Free their hearts from the chains of bitterness and help them release their burdens to You. Give these fathers the gift of Your peace this
Father’s Day.
In Christ’s name we pray,
Amen.
If you are a woman that feels the pain and loss from a previous abortion, let we invite you into a mother’s prayer of healing.
Loving Lord, I come to You and confess my sin of abortion, and ask that Your healing grace would touch my heart today. The remembrance of it is eating me inside and I need Your healing grace and loving forgiveness.
I cast this great burden onto You, knowing that You have promised to heal those that are broken-hearted and to bind up the inner wounds of those that are hurting.
I know that the consequences of our wrong choices can bring much pain, but I also know that You are a God Who has promised to forgive and heal all who come to You with a contrite heart and that You will remember our sins no more.
Forgive me Lord, heal my life. Create in me a clean heart I pray, and renew a right spirit within me. This I ask in Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Lord Jesus, my heart is aching as I had an abortion a long time ago and I still feel guilty for I know now that what I did was wrong. It was a sin against You Lord. But Father, at the time I was frightened. I realize now that my sin was against You in so many ways, and that the responsibility is mine. Oh God, I have wondered if I could ever be forgiven. I have confessed my sin so many times, my promiscuous ways and the abortion I had.
Thank You, Lord, that at last You have brought peace into my heart, for I now realize that You died on the cross to pay the price of all my sin, even those I may yet commit in the future and even the abortion I had. Thank You, that all my sins are forgiven forever,
because Jesus took the punishment that I deserved.
Thank You that my promiscuous ways and the abortion I had is already forgiven at the cross and that I am Your child, simply because I trust in Jesus. Thank You Lord, for forgiving all my sin, and thank You that because I trust in Jesus, there is no condemnation on me at all. Thank You for sending this healing balm into my heart and thank You that I am forgiven forever.
Lord, I pray that if I hear the voice of accusation in my ears or in my heart, that You would help me to lift up my voice in praise to You, for You have promised that I am forgiven by the blood of Jesus, and I am not under condemnation.
Lord, I want to live a life that is pleasing to You. Heal me fully I pray, and thank You in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Oh Lord, I had an abortion thinking it was for the best, but the grief and guilt I have felt ever since I took that decision has haunted me, and I feel so ashamed of myself and riddled with guilt, by allowing a little life to be taken in this way.
My heart is so heavy and I find that I am not able to think about anything else and realise more and more that it is against You Lord, that I have sinned and done this great wrong.
Lord, I feel broken inside and pray for Your healing and comfort. You have promised to mend the broken-hearted and to set those that are captive to guilt and shame free, and Lord, You have promised forgiveness and restoration to all who come humbly to Your throne of grace and confess their wrongdoing. My hope is in You, for You alone can restore the joy of my salvation.
Thank You, that You are a forgiving God, Whose mercies are new every morning and that You that You have promised to carry all our guilt and burdens, and so I hand this over to You today, and ask for the healing and restoration that only You can give, and the grace to forget what is past and move on with You as my guide. I ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen
Heavenly Father, You know all that I have done in my life, and how I have skirted around the issue of my abortion, dismissed the significance of this sin in my life and tried to pretend that it was no big deal.
But Lord, I now confess to You this terrible sin and realize increasingly that it is detestable in Your sight to abort a new little life. I confess my wrongdoing and grieve to think of the unborn baby that I chose to terminate in my womb.
I confess my sin and repent of my casual attitude and ask for Your healing touch on my life. Help me to release this painful memory to You and to accept that Your promise of forgiveness to all who repent of their sins and turn to Christ.
Thank You that You paid the price for all my sins at Calvary and that You have promised to remove them as far as the east is from the west Thank You in Jesus name,
Amen
Heavenly Father, Almighty God.
I humble myself before your Presence.
Father of life,
Father of all spirits.
I have sinned against You,
I have broken your commandment that says "You shall not kill."
I repent of my crime,
I admit my guilt
and I ask you to forgive me.
You have said an eye for an eye,
a tooth for a tooth
and a life for a life [Leviticus 24:17-21];
if You look at my iniquities,
I will be lost forever,
but with You is found mercy and love [Psalm 130:2-3].
Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.
Lord, you have appointed repentance for the forgiveness of sins,
You have given power to Your Church to forgive sins.
I promise to confess my sins to a Catholic priest **
and I beg you to heal the wounds of my soul.
Heal me O Lord,
purify me from all my iniquities.
Precious Blood of Jesus cover me,
I have shed human blood,
I have destroyed life
and you are life,
now I beg you Lord by the power of your Precious Blood
that You forgive me
and deliver me from my iniquities.
Blessed Mother Mary,
Virgin mother of all the living,
mother of life,
I am your child,
forgive me my sins
and pray for me,
take me into the refuge of your Immaculate Heart
and help me to live God's commandments.
Mother Mary, you are the mother of that human being that I rejected.
I entrust it to you
and to Your Son, my Lord Jesus Christ.
Pray for us O Holy Mother of God,
that we may be worthy of the promises of Christ.
Amen.
If you are a man that feels the pain and loss from participation in a previous abortion, we invite you into a father’s prayer of healing.
Dear Father in heaven,
I come to you and confess that I did not rise up to defend life and protect the baby I brought into this world. I did not fulfill my role and responsibility as a father that you bestowed upon me.
Your word, 1 John 1:9, tells me that if I confess my sins, you forgive, and that healing follows forgiveness.
Father, I confess my sin in my participation in abortion and ask for your forgiveness. Thank you for the gift of Jesus, whose sacrifice and blood on the cross pays my debt.
Father, extend your grace and mercy upon me and help me rise up and stand for the cause of life anytime and anywhere. Father, take my shame from me and use me to help others avoid this pain and loss. I am yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Heavenly Father, we lift up the many mothers who are today considering an abortion, and pray that in Your grace You would direct them to make a godly and wise decision.
Lord, You know the individual circumstances of each and every woman, and the many arguments they may be using in their decision, of whether of not to abort the babe in their womb.
We pray that You would send godly counselors, wise advisors and caring friends to come alongside them and offer them guidance, hope and comfort, and we ask that in Your grace You would give them reassurance in their hearts, that abortion is not the answer to their problem, and recognize that You are the Author of life and hope.
We pray that You would convict many to discard their thoughts of aborting their baby, and trust You to lead and guide in the future choices they make. This we ask in Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Dear Father in heaven,
Lord, we come to you today with aching hearts because there are children being aborted all around the world.
Those who are pro-choice argue that the woman has bodily autonomy over the unborn baby’s life, and therefore she has the right to do with her body as she pleases. But, God, what they don’t realize is that there is another life involved here. There is a tiny human baby growing and developing in his mother’s womb from the day of conception, so that one day, he will make his entrance into the world. We know that this little life is a gift from you.
Abortions are tragic, horrifying, and devastating. It’s a tiny human life being sucked from his mother’s womb. The baby can’t cry out to his parents for help because the ones whom you appointed to protect their children and help them grow are the ones giving doctors permission to poison their child, pull him limb from limb from his mother’s womb, and throw him away in the trash—literally.
Father, it horrifies us that abortion is legal, and that it is considered a woman’s right to kill the life within her. It makes us very angry and upset, and it should.
But we don’t know the woman’s situation or how she got pregnant. It might or might not have been her choice. Our hearts break at the suffering some women have experienced in our broken, sinful world. It’s not supposed to be this way, and we ache at their pain.
But either way, we know that it does not give her the right to end her pregnancy. The precious, priceless human life that she is carrying is completely innocent.
Lord, you’ve seen that in the privacy of our own homes, we can get very passionate and angry about this subject. But when we pause and really think about the heart of the situation, we are no longer angry, but heartbroken and left wanting to do something to help these women see the truth.
In the end, we know that no matter how hard we might plead with people to change their minds about abortion, only you can change their hearts.
That’s why we want to earnestly pray for those who feel that abortion is the only answer to their situation.
Today, Father, and in the days to come, we want to pray for these women in three specific ways, and we hope many others will join us.
1. We Pray that Their Eyes Will Be Opened
Father, women who have abortions sometimes don’t understand what they’re “getting rid of.” They’ve been told that it’s just a clump of cells growing in their womb. They might have been told that the “thing” they are carrying won’t feel anything during the abortion, so there’s no harm done.
Where I live, there is an organization that offers free ultrasounds to pregnant women. I remember hearing a story on the radio about a similar ultrasound visit.
A pregnant woman was having an ultrasound while her boyfriend sat behind her, completely uninterested. Then, he looked up at the screen and saw the baby open and close his or her hand. The young man looked down at his own hand, opened, and closed it. Then he looked up at his girlfriend. “We can’t kill our baby,” he said.
This story touched my heart, and it has left me aching to do something to help couples like these. Lord, we’re so grateful for organizations who are able to help men and women see their babies before deciding to have an abortion.
Father, we earnestly pray that those who are considering abortion will see the light and realize that they have been lied to. We pray that they will recognize that they are carrying a precious human life. We pray that they will learn the truth and refuse to have an abortion.
2. We Pray that They Will Have the Strength to Keep Their Babies
Lord, some women are in situations where they feel trapped. Unless they have this abortion, their boyfriends will leave them. Family and friends also encourage or pressure them into having an abortion.
Please help us to remember, God, that these women are very often deceived. They’re lied to and pressured by boyfriends, family, friends, our culture, and the media. We can’t imagine the pain and anxiety they experience, and we acknowledge that the choice of life is often a very hard one—but always the right one.
Father, we pray that these women will have the strength to keep their babies. Going against the crowd—especially against family and friends—is so hard. And if the woman’s boyfriend or family threatens to leave her and the baby by themselves, she might need help financially, physically, mentally, and emotionally. These women might fear being single mothers with little children and no one to support them.
God, we pray that these women will find support for them and for their babies. If, in the end, these mothers determine that they are truly in no position to raise a child, we pray that they will realize that there are alternatives to abortion, such as putting the child up for adoption. There are many couples who, for various reasons, have a strong desire to adopt and provide a loving and nurturing home for these children who have just as much value and potential as any other child.
3. We Pray that They Will Find Hope and Healing in Jesus Christ
Father, there are many women who have had an abortion and have deeply regretted their decision. They live with tremendous guilt, and perhaps they don’t know where to turn next or whether they can ever be forgiven.
Lord, you are a forgiving God. You sent your Son, Jesus Christ, to die a terrible death so that each of us might find forgiveness and spend eternal life with you forever.
You want to forgive these repentant women, Father. In fact, you want to forgive all of us for our sins. You don’t want us to come to you when we’re perfect—that will never happen, for your Word declares that all have sinned against you. Instead, you want us to come just as we are—broken, sinful, hopeless—because we can find forgiveness and an everlasting hope in Christ our Savior.
We pray that these women, those who are either considering an abortion, or those who have had one in the past, will find this wonderful hope and healing in Jesus Christ, your Son. May they experience the grace of your forgiveness and the freedom of your love.
Father, We Know You Have, You Can, and You Will Change Hearts
Lord, thank you that we can come to you today in prayer. We want to remember these women and unborn children who need our prayers. We want to pray for them faithfully.
Father, today, we lift up to you the unborn children in their mothers’ wombs. Many of them will soon be born into this world. They will be able to see their parents’ faces. They will be able to grow up and become a man or a woman someday.
But, Lord, there are many, many unborn children who won’t even live to see the day of their birth.
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well (Psalm 139:13-14).
Lord, just as the psalmist David writes, every baby is “fearfully and wonderfully made.” Every baby is special, precious, and priceless. You knew every part of the baby before he was even conceived—for you created him.
Help these women to see the truth, Father. Open their eyes. Give them the strength to keep their babies, and show us how we may help them and walk beside them. Please give us the strength and means to offer practical help as we reach out to them and share your love with them. We pray that they will realize that we do not hate or condemn them, but rather love them too much to stay silent.
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Lord, God, I thank you today for the gift of my life, and for the lives of all my brothers and sisters. I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion, yet I rejoice that you have conquered death by the resurrection of your Son. I am ready to do my part in end abortion. Today I commit myself never to be silent, never to be passive, never to be forgetful of the preborn. I commit myself to be active in the prolife movement, and to never stop defending life until all my brothers and sisters are protected, and our nation once again becomes a nation with liberty and justice, not just for some, but for all. Through Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen!!
Father, all life is in Your care. You have entrusted us to one another, that we may show our brothers and sisters the same love you have for us. We pray, then, for the least among us, the children in the womb. Protect them for the violence of abortion. We for those scheduled to die at this abortion facility. Save them from death. Give new hope to their parents, that they may turn away from the desperate act of abortion. Grant conversion to the abortionist and to the staff. Show us how we are to respond to the blood shed in our midst, and lead us to the day when this place of death is transformed into a haven of life. Guard us with your joy and your peace, for in You, life is victorious. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen
